PNG Government Declares Public Holiday for Pacific Games

PORT MORESBY - The Government has declared Monday, July 13, as a public holiday in Port Moresby “in recognition of the Pacific Games”.

Acting Chief Secretary to Government John Kali told The National that the holiday was for everyone in the National Capital District where the Games would be held.

“The public holiday is declared in recognition of the Pacific Games and it’s for everyone (in Port Moresby),” he said.

In a circular to heads of departments, provincial administrators and heads of other public authorities, Kali said the National Executive Council had declared Monday, July 13, “to be a public holiday throughout the National Capital District for the purpose of the events of the Pacific Games” in Port Moresby.

“All public servants are required to resume duties on Tuesday, July 14,” Kali said.

Hundreds of people from outside Port Moresby have travelled to the city, with the major airlines recording an increase in movement to the capital city. [TheNational]
