Peter O’Neill Encourages Women in Business

WAIGANI (PORT MORESBY) - Prime Minister Peter O’Neill is encouraging more women to be involved in business as funding is available from the Women’s Micro Bank plus district and provincial funds.

He yesterday opened the 10-day Digicel Women in Business Expo at Constitution Park in Waigani.

He gave K300,000 to cover the operation cost of the event. O’Neill said funds were available from the provincial services improvement programme and district services improvement programme which went directly to governors and MPs.

He said Women in Business, started by Janet Sape, began with 500 members but now had 15,000 around the country.

“This shows that women have a lot of interest in going into business,” O’Neill said.

“The Government must support this, hence we have set up the Women’s Micro Bank. I do not want only one micro bank branch, but all over the country.”

O’Neill said more funding would be allocated to the bank in the 2016 national budget. [TheNational]
