K10 millon Bill for Pacific Games 2015 Events

PORT MORESBY - The Pacific Games opening ceremony last Saturday and the closing event on July 18 will cost K10 million to stage.

Tania Nugent, the managing director of Makoda Productions, said the closing ceremony would feature a “more Pacific flavour” than just PNG.

“Our budget for everything, including the opening and the closing, fireworks, and sound system from London used for the London Olympics in 2012, is K10 million,” she told The National.

“Originally, it was about K7 million but it went up, given the cost of our production equipment, lighting, 10 container-loads of equipment. What we brought in from overseas was the best we could find.

“The majority of our budget definitely went towards the opening – it was a challenging budget in terms of trying to do two shows essentially for the price of one.”

Nugent said sub-contracts were let out to international audio operators, fireworks specialists, lighting designers, plus the bringing in of singsing groups from around PNG for the opening and the closing events.

“I’m focusing on the closing now. Traditionally, the closing ceremonies are a little less formal, and it’s really for the athletes to celebrate because they’ve finished their competition and they don’t have any more events to focus on.

“So the closing will be very much focused on coming together for that final goodbye,” she add. [TheNational]
