President Jokowi Makes State Visit to PNG

PORT MORESBY - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday departed for Papua New Guinea to make a state visit to the country that borders with Indonesia’s province of Papua.

“Many things will be discussed during the visit. I will give you the details after I arrive there,” he said as quoted by Antara at a press conference in Biak.

Accompanied by First Lady Iriana Jokowi and Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno, the President departed for Papua New Guinea from Frans Kaiseipo Airport in Biak Island, West Papua.

Jokowi’s visit to Papua New Guinea will last until May 12, and follows a string of working visits to four eastern provinces of Indonesia, namely Maluku, North Maluku, Papua and West Papua, over five days.

Jokowi distributed Indonesia Health Cards (KIS) to Manokwari residents during his visit on Monday morning. After distributing the KIS, the President and his entourage headed to Rendani Airport to fly to Biak aboard an Air Force Boeing.

In Biak, President Jokowi and his entourage transferred to the presidential aircraft before they departed for Jacksons International Airport in Papua New Guinea. [TJP]
