Bank Papua Ready to Face 2020 Asian Economic Community (AEC)

BIAK (BIAK NUMFOR) - Bank Papua is ready to face the free market competition of the Asian Economic Community (AEC) and the 2020 international banking unification, its director said.

Bank Papua director J. Kafiar said in Biak, this week that to face global competition of Asean Economic Community, Bank Papua has been building infrastructure in various regencies, preparing human resources (HR), as well as improving information technology facilities.

“Global competition is now to be faced by the banking community and we have to take it positively because it is a form of service changes in the banking world,” Kafiar said.

He said the management of the Bank Papua also be increasingly transformed into foreign bank for exchange transactions with the international standard.This change would ease the customers to conduct banking transactions safely and quickly.

Kafiar said the Indonesian people’s access to banks is very small around 20 percent, while Malaysia people reach to 80 percent to banking services.

“For ASEAN countries, Singapore is the most high of around 95 percent of the population has access to banking services,” he said.

Kafiar welcomed the willingness of Biak regent, Thomas Ondy to open the service of Bank Papua in West Biak and North Biak districts.

“This is in line with the Bank Papua mission that will reach people in various districts and archipelago,” he said.

Bank Papua branch inauguration was marked by the inauguration of head of branch office in Biak, Wastu Anggoro Wijonarko by Biak regent Thomas Ondy.

Based on the data, the Bank of Papua in 2015 has 184 banking offices spread in Papua, West Papua, North Toraja, South Sulawesi, Surabaya, Makassar, Yogyakarta and Jakarta. [Jubi]
