Five Yangoru-Saussia Students get Scholarship Program at Pacific Adventist University

PORT MORESBY - Five students undertaking degree studies in Nursing at the Pacific Adventist University are the first recipients of the Yangoru-Saussia Scholarship program.

Member for Yangoru-Saussia & Minister for Trade Richard Maru said the scholarship program aimed to increase the supply of trained health professionals in the electorate.

The subsidy was approved and made available by the Yangoru-Saussia Joint District Planning and Budget Priority Committee.

These 5 students from Yangoru-Saussia are now part of their district’s plan to improve quality of health services for its people.

Minister Maru said the district have never had a scholarship program before until now.

Minister Maru presented a cheque worth 50 thousand kina towards sponsoring the students to the Bursar of the Pacific Adventist University, where the students are undertaking their studies.

Each of the students will have ten thousand kina subsidizing their tuition fees.

Minister Maru said the district is only sponsoring students attending nursing and health extension courses under a bond agreement because for a dire shortage of nurses and health shortage in the electorate.

The scholarship is expected to continue and expand next year. [EMTV]
