Isosolo Dance Open the 7th Sentani Lake Festival

SENTANI -  The opening ceremony of the 7th Sentani Lake Festival was held on Thursday (19/6) at Khalkote Beach, Sentani Timur Sub-district, Jayapura Regency. Many art performances and dancing including the Isosolo dance were presented for attracting the visitors.

Isosolo dance is a traditional war dance performed in the traditional boat. Hundreds of dancers wearing the traditional costume with bows and arrows danced and sang along the Sentani Lake to Khalkote Beach in the fifteen decorative traditional boats. The dancing has turned a magnet for the visitors during the ceremony.

The Chairman of FDS VII Committee, Chris Tokoro said the isosolo dance is used to a war dance, but not it becomes part of the attraction must be performed in the festival and become its trademark which make it different with other cultural festival.

A visitor from Jakarta, Heni Rianawanti said she was quite surprise with the performance of dancers. “It was unique. The dance was very attractive, energetic, and powerful, further it performed in the traditional boat on the Lake Sentani.  I hope this Papuan unique culture could be sustained,” she said.  [Jubi]
