80 Papuans get Australian Scholarships for 60 Years

JAYAPURA CITY - Senior Program Manager – Scholarship and Volunteering Unit Development Cooperation , Pingkan Umboh said Australia Award scholarships to Indonesia has been run for 60 years and recorded only 80 people from Papua who got the scholarship.

” Australia Award has been 60 years and produced 7000 graduates throughout Indonesia and only 80 people from Papua awarded, ” Umboh said in in front of the students, civil servants (PNS) and the community, in the main hall of the autonomous office, Kotaraja, Jayapura city on Thursday (3/4).

Andini Mulyawati, scholarship outreach officer said , there are two categories of areas, general and geographic focus areas including Aceh, Papua, West Papua, East Nusa Tenggara and West Nusa Tenggara. The applicants who are from these five areas will be prioritized.

Secretary of Training Agency in Papua, D Sewo Yohanes represented the Governor of Papua, stated that it is important to prepare human resources who are prepared to compete in today’s era.

” Currently, Papua needs someone who creative and innovative, comprehensive knowledge , information and extensive social networks to support  vision and mission of the Governor and Deputy Governor of Papua ” Yohanes explained.

He hopes anyone who live in Papua could take this chance.

Jeni Karay, one of the participants expressed her appreciation for the socialization of Australia Award.
” We ( Papuan students) should take this opportunity if we want to compete with other friends in Indonesia, ” she said.

Other participant, Felix Degei added that this socialization should also be held in other cities in Papua, so that more people can participate.
