Suspected Papua Armed Group Member Nabbed in Illaga Market

MULIA (PUNCAK JAYA) - Police arrested Tuesday man believed to be a member of an armed civilian group led by Murib in a shop in Ilaga district, Puncak Jaya regency, Papua.

“On Tuesday at around 7:10 a.m. local time, police detained a man believed to be a member of an armed civilian group from the Gome group led by Murib in Kago village, Ilaga district, Puncak Jaya regency,” Puncak Jaya Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Marselis told The Jakarta Post by phone.

A special team from the Papua Police, led by Adj. Sr. Comr. Budi Basra, had conducted surveillance on the suspect earlier. In the arrest, police seized a revolver and 10 bullets from the suspect.

“The gun is still being examined to find out whether it was owned by a police or a Indonesian Military (TNI) member, whose gun was seized by a group member earlier,” added Marselis. [ThejakartaPos]
