Police Been Prepared for Papua Organization (OPM) Anniversary

JAYAPURA CITY - Police in Papua have been prepared to disperse any separatist Free Papua Organization (OPM) anniversary commemoration event to be held on December 1.

Papua regional police deputy commander Brigadier General Paulus Waterpauw said to ANTARA News here on Sunday police personnel stood by in anticipation against any OPM anniversary activity.

Asked whether the police would go ahead with their plan even if the anniversary activity is conducted in the form of a religious rite, Waterpauw said it would be up to local police chiefs to decide.

However if the rite is accompanied by separatist flag raising a firm action will be taken, he said.

"What is certain is we will act against any activity linked to OPM anniversary on December 1," he said.

He said situation in Papua as well as West Papua at present remains secure. [Antara]
