Over K200 Million Contract Signed for Two Projects in Northern and Hela Provinces

POPONDETTA- Two contracts were signed yesterday at the government house for two different projects in the Northern and Hela provinces.

Government house was full with contractors, members of parliament, the media, and other stakeholders.

The signing of contracts for the building of four bridges in the Northern Province took place first.

Australian Bridge Construction Company, Canstruct, will rebuild the four bridges destroyed in 2007 by Cyclone Guba in Northern Province to the project value of K130 million.

The government of PNG is contributing K85.5 million and AusAID will provide K52.4 million.

Another contract valued at K80 million was signed to build two administrative and a commercial building for the Hela Provincial government in Tari.

The project was awarded to Curtain Brothers, a construction company already working in the Hela province.

Hela Governor Anderson Agiru said they were looking forward to working with the contractor to get the project going, as it was part of their plans to change the new Hela Province.

“It is our motto to ensure that changes happen in unlikely places like Tari…I want to see changes,” said Agiru.

He thanked the government for its support in this project.

Funding for this project will come from High Impact Infrastructure project funds under the Kokopo benefit sharing agreement, from the provincial government’s internal revenue, and from budgetary support from the National Government.

The project is expected to be complete within eighteen months. [EMTV]
