Team Oro Wins Islands Region Cricket Title

POPONDETTA (ORO) - Team Oro has won the finals for the Islands Regional cricket tournament played in the Oro Province.
Both the men and women’s team defeated Team Alotau to claim the title.
Alotau men’s were the first to hit the ground running on day one of matches on Saturday against Oro Gold. Their batsmen delivered a massive 112 at the final over.
Oro Gold sent in their top order batsman Peter Koviro and Veari Kalai, but Koviro was gone after the first over.
The fall of wickets kept coming after the fifth over with brilliant balling from Alotau, as they closed day one on a high note.
On the final day, Alotau men registered 114 runs in 20 overs. But Oro Gold retaliated winning the match in the 8th overs with 115 runs. While Oro women their match 3 for 127 defeating Alotau all out for 67.
Tournament Director Copeland Gewa commended palyers for displaying true sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
A select side will represent the Islands Region at the national championship. [EMTV]
