PNG To Host Australasian Karate Tournament

PORT MORESBY - PNG Karate Do is preparing to host the Australasian Karate Tournament in December, where fighters from Indonesia and New Caledonia will participate.

The highly disciplined sport plans on staging more events leading into the 2015 Games.

It has been a while since PNG played host to an international Karate event, and current President of PNG Karate Do, Carl Marie is optimistic about staging the Australasian Tournament.

Following a number of training camps for both the juniors and the seniors, a young and vibrant batch of fighters has been identified to carry the hopes of PNG in the sport.

The highly disciplined sport has attracted a large number of athletes; even the young have taken the code to heart.

While Karate is a well-administered sport, funding has also come at the right time with two hundred thousand Kina presented yesterday by the Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko.

Black Belt holders Sailas Piskaut (pictured) and Julius Piku will also be taking part in the Fijian Open Karate Championships next month. [EMTV]
