Planning Minister Funds ATS Compound Water Project

PORT MORESBY - After 18 years of living without water in the city, the ATS Compound outside Port Moresby will now receive regular water supply.

Minister for National Planning presented Five hundred thousand kina funding to kick start the four kilometer water project.

The ATS Compound comprises people from the Northern Province, Milne Bay and parts of the Highlands Region who have since migrated to the city in search of better opportunities in life.

The National Planning Conference room was filled with representatives from the ATS Compound, including the local MP Labi Amaiu and the Minister for National Planning Charles Abel.  The Eda Ranu team was led by Chairlady Mary Karo.

Minister Abel presented the funding following Eda Ranu’s confirmation that work on the 3.1 million kina water project will be carried out soon.

Member responsible Labi Amaiu said the project is one of his priorities to ensure basis services are provided but while, they play their part to achieve results; he urged the people to respect Eda Ranu workers as they carry out the water reticulation project.

All stakeholders were also briefed on how the water project will be carried out.

The ground breaking ceremony is expected today while work on the ATS water project is expected to start in two weeks’ time. [EMTV]
