12 Health Facilities To Recieve Medical Equipment from PNG LNG Project

MOUNT HAGEN (WHP) - Health facilities along the corridors of the PNG LNG Project now have access to vital medical equipment thanks to a joint initiative by developers Esso Highlands and domestic and international partners.

Over a hundred pieces of medical equipment will be distributed to 12 health facilities in four different provinces.

The Mt Hagen Provincial Hospital was the first facility to receive a shipment recently.

The much needed medical equipment was presented to the hospital to improve its services to the people of Western Highlands.

Program partners, PNG Tribal Foundation, MediSend, and Esso Highlands were present to hand over the gifts.

PNG Tribal Foundation is one NGO that focuses on health and education services and was keen on joining the program.

The Western Highlands Provincial Government has been tasked by the Government to establish the Mt Hagen Provincial Hospital as a regional referral hospital.

Director of Curative Health Services, Dr John Kiap, said achieving that will take time, but with the support of developers and its partners, that’s a positive sign.

Esso Highlands will be presenting 130 items of medical equipment to 12 health centres along the LNG Corridor, covering four provinces including Southern Highlands, Gulf, and Central Province.

They have also begun sending technicians to the United States to be trained in biomedical repair, to ensure this equipment is well maintained. [EMTV]
